Perito Moreno Glacier

Categories:    -Misc-

The Perito Moreno Glacier is one of only three Patagonian glaciers that are not retreating. Periodically the glacier advances over the L-shaped "Lago Argentino" ("Argentine Lake") forming a natural dam which separates the two halves of the lake when it reaches the opposite shore. With no escape route, the water-level on the Brazo Rico side of the lake can rise by up to 30 meters above the level of the main lake. The enormous pressure produced by this mass of waters finally breaks the ice barrier holding it back, in a spectacular rupture event. This dam/rupture cycle is not regular and it naturally recurs at any frequency between once a year to less than once a decade. To see the falling of the natural dam wait for the end of the video.

"An idea birthed by the minds of Bre Pettis and Jesse Ferguson, "Sticks and Stones" is a machine made entirely out of natural materials - sticks, stones, twine, trees, dirt, and so on. Built at the sacred Earth Sanctuary ( http://earthsanctuary.org ), Sticks and Stones is composed of about 20 distinct elements, all working in sequence to ring the large, heavy bell at the end, sending a beautiful majestic sound across the forest landscape. Multimodal Control of Warcraft and Google Maps

Categories:    -Design-   -Gaming-   -Technology-   -Misc-   -Science-

Multimodal interaction provides the user with multiple modes of interfacing with a system beyond the traditional keyboard and mouse input/output. The most common such interface combines a visual modality (e.g. a display, keyboard, and mouse) with a voice modality (speech recognition for input, speech synthesis and recorded audio for output). However other modalities, such as pen-based input or haptic input/output, may be used. Multimodal user interfaces are a research area in human-computer interaction. The advantage of multiple modalities is increased usability: the weaknesses of one modality are offset by the strengths of another.

Adam Brandejs is the creator of "Animatronic Flesh Shoe". "Th e shoe is stitched together with multiple pieces of latex rubber cast out of moulds made from my own skin. The shoe's toe and heel raise and lower as it occasionally vibrates/pulsates, and twitches on the floor as if it were still alive. The movement is not constant, and usually causes people to jump back while they are in the middle of leaning in for a closer look."  Ar tist statementIt's a Nike shoe stapled together with human flesh, twitching...
