This movie is actually a fake. It is created by putting a green screen on the powerbook screen and mixing the background image over the green layer of the video.

The reason I put it here is that a transparent screen like this is completely feasible and may have several advantages. Perhaps this design should become standard.

1) It will save plenty of battery life since the backlight may become obsolete. Any wall or object reflecting the room light can be used instead of internal backlight.

2) The screen can be used in presentations without a projector.

3) Weight and thickness could be reduced.

New trend is coming to wave surfing. A long fin with elevating wings makes the surfboard float in the air above the water. The weight of the surfer and board is pushed by water below the wave face, which is more condense and stable therefore provide the required elevation.

If you want to find an evidence of women’s right or the equity between men and women, some trivia about games would be a very interesting resource. No joking at all!
Along with the fast boom in economy, women’s life has been changing a lot. A woman is no longer known as a housewife, who is unemployed and spends the whole life to “serve” her husband and children. Especially in China, which is partly known by its strong feudal system and where male chauvinism more or less still exits, one third of game players are women.
According to the General Administration of Press and Publication of China, Game industry revenue of 2005 hit 3.77 billion yuan, up 53 percent compared with the statistic in 2004. Of course, the number is not made up by men only. Female-game-player market is really potential, estimated at 4 billion yuan ($500 million) and this is the reason why there are more and more games designed for women. Game firms also promptly jump into this lucrative area.
Most women love to play casual and puzzle games while men’s favorite categories are online and role playing games. Lovely images, romantic backgrounds, animals, and one round in a short time are the main features of games for women. Daily activities related to a woman’s life is also a popular topic for many game firms to develop. Pretty Woman is a good example for such games. In the game, players can make their virtual female characters more beautiful and attractive by choosing various make-up tools: eyeliner, eye-shadow, lipstick and gloss, etc. Those seem very simple but actually appeal to many women.
But women do play online games as well.
Unlike the “common principles” of online games for men which usually easily go to sex and violence, favorite online games for women are very “feminine.” Many white-collar women play chess and some other games with friends on MSN, Yahoo, etc. in spare time or in the break between morning and afternoon shifts. However, that is not all for the whole picture. World of Warcraft, MU, or Counter Strike also have a great number of female users.
Liu Bing, one of few female players who has progressed to the highest level, 60, in World of Warcraft said “I have been playing World of War Craft for one year and a half. Playing games has become my strong desire that pushes me in front of the computer screen every time I am free.”
Internet is so popular in China now. “Café internet,” “internet service,” “internet cyber,” and “game online” can be seen at every single corner of Shanghai or Beijing, and the fact that China becomes one of the biggest online game markets is totally understandable.
“Online games are not only man’s entertainment,” said Zi Wei, another female player who spends at least 3 hours per day for online games. Wei plays with a group of 9 other friends, both male and female, and her talent is considered the best in this group.
Zi Wei shared that voice communication is highly important in online role playing games. Every player usually uses chat applications such as Yahoo Messenger, MSN or some chat clients such as Ventrilo, Teamspeak, Roger Wilco to play a role in the team and recognize the voice of each member. Players can type but it takes a long time when online role playing game’s speed is really high, so voice chat seems to be the sole best solution.
“It was so funny that the first time when I started to play online game, I looked around in the Internet shop and imitated a small boy sitting next to me to take a microphone and talk to my partners, all are men. They shouted to me “Go home, babe!” Liu Bing laughed, “It was because I’m female! I was a bit angry with those guys and immediately search a voice changer online. Luckily I found one. My God, my voice totally became male voice. And I was able to play World of Warcraft with those guys until I came to level 35. Then I decided to talk to them that I was a girl. Wow, they were shocked…and we are close friends in the group now!”
Maybe Liu Bing’s story is a special case. Women play games as they love to, not really because they try to show that they are as good as men in anything. Playing online games is just one more choice for women’s entertainment.
“I can spend 3 hours per day for online games, but my major interest is very traditional: shopping, clothes, and books,” Zi Wei explained.

“If the root is broken, it can now be fixed,” said Dr. Tarak El-Bialy of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. “And because we can regrow the teeth root, a patient could have his own tooth rather than foreign objects in his mouth.”

Sony Playstation as Skin Burns Cure Aid

Doctors at Shiba Hospital in Israel have found an effective way to improve the recovery of severe burns patients using Sony Playstation game consoles.

According to the doctors, the patients, usually partially covered in special bondages, sink into the games and forget the pains caused by the burns. This results in body moves that the patients would not be able to do without the distractions. The body moves speed up recovery and reduce pains.

Tom Karney, a patient who suffers from burns in his hands and legs from campfire accident says "I'm used to playing with the Playstation, but here it has a lot more meaning. I found out that it's much easier for me to move while playing. I just don't think about the pain."
The hospital has acquired Eyetoy camera which allows controlling games without use of a joystick and encourages the patients to move in order to play. The camera allows patients to play while sitting in wheel chairs, or lay in bed. The lack of need to touch anything is also a big advantage since it reduces the danger of infections.

Perito Moreno Glacier

The Perito Moreno Glacier is one of only three Patagonian glaciers that are not retreating. Periodically the glacier advances over the L-shaped "Lago Argentino" ("Argentine Lake") forming a natural dam which separates the two halves of the lake when it reaches the opposite shore. With no escape route, the water-level on the Brazo Rico side of the lake can rise by up to 30 meters above the level of the main lake. The enormous pressure produced by this mass of waters finally breaks the ice barrier holding it back, in a spectacular rupture event. This dam/rupture cycle is not regular and it naturally recurs at any frequency between once a year to less than once a decade.

To see the falling of the natural dam wait for the end of the video. It's well worth it.

Willard Wigan was born in Birmingham, England in 1957 and is the creator of the smallest works of art on earth. From being a traumatised and unrecognised dyslexic child, he is now emerging as the most globally celebrated micro-miniaturist of all time and is literally capable of turning a spec of dust into a vision of true beauty.

He works in total solitude at a quiet retreat in Jersey mainly at night when there is a greater sense of peace in the world and less static electricity to interfere with the immeasurable precision and tolerances required to create the pieces.

The human hand can only work in 100th of an inch resolution. Willard's sculptures require precision to the scale of 1/1000th of an inch. To achieve such percision, willard has trained himself for years to enter a meditative state in which his heart rate and breath rate slows down. He then synchronizes the movements of the surgeon blade with his heart beats.

The sculptures can be seen only with microscopes.

Yes, we know that sharing is good, but we have never considered that we can share our businesses. A new start-up BusinessDo (www.businessdo.net) promises that it allows you to share your businesse services world-wide.

Generally it’s a simple idea, so simple I wonder why nobody has done this before. All you need to do is to describe your services by their inputs and outputs and BusinessDo will find a partner matching either end of your service.

I believe most web surfers have some experience with social applications. It hard to miss the links “digg it”, “add to del.ici.ous” etc. in blogs and webs everywhere. But this concept has not taken off in corporate world. Maybe BusinessDo will take this “social” fever to the otherwise boring “business internet”. Who knows…

By comparison, 500 GHz is more than 250 times faster than today's cell phones, which typically operate at approximately 2 GHz. Computer simulations suggest that the silicon-germanium (SiGe) technology used in the chip could ultimately support even higher (near-TeraHertz – 1,000 GHz) operational frequencies even at room temperature.

“For the first time, Georgia Tech and IBM have demonstrated that speeds of half a trillion cycles per second can be achieved in a commercial silicon-based technology, using large wafers and silicon-compatible low-cost manufacturing techniques,” said John D. Cressler, Byers Professor in Georgia Tech’s School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and a researcher in the Georgia Electronic Design Center (GEDC) at Georgia Tech. “This work redefines the upper bounds of what is possible using silicon-germanium nanotechnology techniques.”

SiGe is a process technology in which the electrical properties of silicon, the material underlying virtually all modern microchips, is augmented with germanium to make chips operate more efficiently. SiGe boosts performance and reduces power consumption in chips that go into cellular phones and other advanced communication devices. IBM first announced its SiGe technology in 1989, and later introduced SiGe into the industry's first standard, high-volume SiGe chips in October 1998. Since that time, it has shipped hundreds of millions of SiGe chips.

Better understanding the physics of silicon-germanium devices – and ultimately the circuits that can be built from them – will provide important clues to improvements needed in the future.

Silicon-germanium technology has been of great interest to the electronics industry because it allows substantial transistor performance improvements to be achieved while using fabrication techniques compatible with standard high-volume silicon-based manufacturing processes. By introducing germanium into silicon wafers at the atomic scale, engineers can boost dramatically performance while retaining the many advantages of silicon.

Spectacular 750sq Meter Video Screen

A large sceen is a good starting point for a great visual experience. The experience is fantastic when the screen size is 750 sq meters!

Such a screen was created to celebrate Christmas 2005 in the city of Dijon, France. It was accomplished by combining 4 projectors and projecting on the front of the town hall.
